The Prime Minister Internship Scheme (PMIS) has kicked off with an overwhelming response. On the very first day, over 1.55 lakh young people registered on the PMIS portal, surpassing the target of 1.25 lakh set for the pilot project. The registration window, which opened on October 3, will remain open until October 25.
Who Can Apply? The internship is open to youth aged 21-24 who have completed their 10th, 12th, ITI, diploma, or graduation. The scheme was introduced in this year’s budget to boost skill development and employability among young people.
Corporate Participation Many top companies, including Mahindra & Mahindra, Tata Consultancy Services, and Reliance Industries, have already listed internship opportunities. As of October 11, 193 companies posted over 90,000 internships. The portal is open until October 15 for more companies to join.
Internship Opportunities Across India Internships are available in 737 districts across 37 states and union territories. The top five states offering the most internships are Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, Karnataka, and Uttar Pradesh.
Allowances and Sectors Interns will receive a monthly allowance of ₹5,000 and a one-time grant of ₹6,000. Opportunities are available across 24 sectors, including Oil & Gas, Hospitality, Automotives, Banking, and more. Candidates must have an Aadhaar number for authentication.
What’s Next? Candidates can register on the PMIS portal until October 25. After that, an AI system will shortlist candidates on October 26. Companies will review applications between October 27 and November 7. Successful candidates will have the chance to accept or reject offers between November 8 and 15.
With ₹800 crore set aside for this scheme, the government aims to provide 1.25 lakh internships this year, helping young people gain valuable experience and skills.
