Maheep Kapoor, a former model, recently shared a frightening health experience when her blood sugar levels spiked to 700. During a chat with her husband, actor Sanjay Kapoor, on the Netflix series Fabulous Lives vs Bollywood Wives, Maheep revealed that she was diagnosed with Type-1 diabetes in March 2022. One day, she felt extremely ill and had to call Sanjay, who was in Los Angeles at the time.

Sanjay recalled the urgent situation, saying, “You were lucky to get to the hospital right away. I remember Shanaya was at Mannat, Shah Rukh Khan’s house, and I told her to leave immediately. I was in constant contact with Kannu (nephew Mohit Marwah), who practically had to drag you into the car. If you hadn’t gone to the hospital, you could have slipped into a coma.”

Maheep added that Mohit’s quick actions “saved her life,” as doctors later told her that she was at risk of organ failure. She also spoke about how the incident deeply affected her children, Shanaya and Jahaan. “I’ve never really talked about how the kids handled it. When I woke up in the ICU, I could see the fear on their faces. They were terrified, especially because of what happened with Sri (Sridevi) and Mona.”

For context, Sanjay’s brother Boney Kapoor’s first wife, Mona, passed away from cancer in 2012, and his second wife, Sridevi, died accidentally in 2018.

Sanjay noted how his daughter Shanaya matured quickly during those days, managing phone calls, talking to doctors, and coordinating with family members while Maheep was in the hospital.

What Does a Blood Sugar Level of 700 Mean for Your Body?

When blood sugar levels soar to such dangerous heights (a condition called hyperglycemia), it can lead to serious health problems. Dr. Manjusha Agarwal, a senior consultant at Gleneagles Hospitals in Mumbai, explained that prolonged high blood sugar can cause issues like diabetic retinopathy (eye damage), kidney failure, nerve damage, heart disease, strokes, and infections in the teeth and gums. “Over time, high blood sugar harms the nerve endings and blood flow in your body, leading to symptoms like blurry vision or a tingling feeling before it becomes an emergency,” she said.

Common signs of high blood sugar include blurred vision, headaches, frequent urination, and feeling very hungry. If not treated quickly, it can lead to diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA), where the blood becomes acidic due to a lack of insulin and high levels of ketones. “DKA symptoms include nausea, vomiting, dehydration, stomach pain, a fast heartbeat, confusion, and even passing out,” Dr. Agarwal warned. In the worst cases, it can lead to coma or death.

To manage blood sugar levels and avoid hyperglycemia, it’s crucial to take insulin as prescribed, eat healthy foods, exercise regularly, and follow your doctor’s advice. “You should also check your blood sugar levels often. Being proactive about your health is key to preventing complications,” Dr. Agarwal advised.
