The budget airline has overcome major challenges, including issues that kept many planes out of service. Now, IndiGo is experiencing a surge in demand for domestic flights.

“We’ve turned the corner,” said CEO Pieter Elbers in an interview with Bloomberg Television on Tuesday. He mentioned that the company plans to reduce the number of grounded planes by next year.

Elbers told Bloomberg TV that IndiGo aims to have fewer than 50 grounded aircraft by March 2025, down from a peak of more than 70.

Operated by InterGlobe Aviation Ltd, IndiGo faced unexpected losses in its first two years due to high fuel costs and increased maintenance expenses.

Elbers expects a “very positive” peak travel season in India and notes a “healthy growth pattern” in flight bookings.

“We see very positive momentum again,” he said.
