Cyclone Dana Landfall Updates: Flight Services Resume in West Bengal and Odisha; No Casualties Reported, Says Odisha CM

After Cyclone Dana made landfall, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi announced that no deaths have been reported, marking the success of the state’s “zero-casualty” mission. Flights at both Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport in Kolkata and Bhubaneswar Airport resumed at 8 am today. Train services under Eastern Railways have also started running again.

Weather Forecast: Cyclone Dana has weakened into a cyclonic storm but is still causing heavy to very heavy rainfall in Odisha, West Bengal, and Jharkhand. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicts that the storm will move northwest across northern Odisha and gradually weaken into a deep depression within the next six hours.

Damage Reports: Some areas in northern districts of Odisha have reported damage to thatched houses and road blockages due to uprooted trees. Electricity lines have been damaged in certain locations. Chief Minister Majhi praised the efforts of the government, stating, “We aimed for ‘zero casualties’ from the very beginning and worked diligently to achieve it.”

Cyclone Dana News: Bhadrak District Records Highest Rainfall in Odisha in Last 24 Hours

Following the landfall of Cyclone Dana, several parts of Odisha have experienced heavy rainfall. The regional meteorological center reported that Chandbali in Bhadrak district received the highest rainfall of 158.6 mm in the last 24 hours (from 8:30 am Thursday to 8:30 am Friday). Rajkanika in Kendrapara district recorded 156 mm of rainfall.

Other areas with significant rainfall include Basudevpur in Bhadrak district, Oupada in Balasore district, and Marsaghai and Rajnagar in Kendrapara district, each receiving over 100 mm of rain during this period.
