On Monday, Apple introduced its updated iMac, now powered by the new M4 chip. Alongside the iMac, Apple also released updated accessories like the Magic Mouse, Magic Keyboard, and Magic Trackpad, all featuring USB-C ports for charging.
Greg Joswiak, Apple’s Senior Vice President of Marketing, announced that this is the first update in “an exciting week of announcements.” The new iMac is the first Mac to use the M4 chip, which was first introduced with the latest iPad Pro.
The base model of the new iMac comes with an M4 chip featuring an 8-core CPU and 8-core GPU, along with 16 GB of RAM. It is priced at Rs 1,34,900. A more powerful version with a 10-core CPU and 10-core GPU is available for Rs 1,54,900. Both models can be customized with up to 32 GB of RAM and 2 TB of storage. Pre-orders start today, and the iMac will be available for purchase beginning November 8.
Apple calls the M4-powered iMac the “world’s best all-in-one for AI.” The design looks similar to the previous model that featured the M3 chip. The new iMac includes a 12MP Center Stage camera and Thunderbolt 4 ports for fast data transfer and support for additional monitors.
This iMac is among the first from Apple to include Apple Intelligence out of the box. Features include a ChatGPT-powered Siri and AI writing tools. Existing Macs with Apple Silicon will receive a software update to add Apple Intelligence features to iMac, Mac mini, MacBook, and Mac Pro models.
The latest iMac comes in seven colors: green, yellow, orange, pink, purple, blue, and silver. John Ternus, Apple’s Senior Vice President of Hardware Engineering, said, “The new iMac changes the game once again with the incredible features of Apple Intelligence and the powerful performance of Apple silicon M4.”
Compared to the M1 iMac, the new M4 iMac is up to 1.7 times faster and offers up to 2.1 times better gaming performance. The base model now includes at least 16 GB of RAM, which can be configured up to 32 GB. Apple claims it is 4.5 times faster than the most popular Intel-powered 24-inch all-in-one PC. The iMac features a 24-inch high-resolution screen and now offers a nano-texture glass option, previously only available on the Apple Studio Display.
All four USB-C ports on the new iMac support the Thunderbolt 4 standard. The iMac also retains a 3.5mm headphone jack on the left side.
The new iMac comes with color-matched accessories: Magic Mouse, Magic Keyboard, and Magic Trackpad, all now featuring USB-C ports for charging.
