In Jharkhand, the RJD is unhappy with how seats are being shared for the state elections. The RJD feels it deserves more seats, but the JMM and Congress have formed an alliance and made decisions without consulting them. This has caused friction, despite the long-standing relationship between the RJD and JMM.
Lalu Prasad Yadav’s RJD is upset with the alliance in the Jharkhand elections, specifically the way the JMM and Congress have divided 70 seats between them. The RJD believes they should have been given more consideration, especially given their history with the JMM.
Interestingly, in the Bihar elections, the RJD dismissed the JMM’s request for border seats, which now mirrors the situation in Jharkhand, where the RJD finds itself on the receiving end.
The RJD feels sidelined as the JMM aligns with Congress, and a senior leader from the RJD believes this will have consequences in the future. The RJD has a strong presence in Bihar, and the JMM should remember that.
Old Friendship Between Lalu and Shibu Soren Despite the current friction, Lalu Prasad and Shibu Soren share a long history. Lalu’s rise to power in Bihar was supported by Shibu Soren of the JMM. Back then, Lalu had to support the creation of Jharkhand, separating it from Bihar.
RJD Wants At Least 12 Seats The RJD, unhappy with the seat-sharing arrangement for the Jharkhand elections, is demanding at least 12 seats. With the JMM and Congress already dividing 70 of the 81 seats, the RJD is only being considered for 7 seats. The remaining 4 seats are expected to go to the CPI-ML.
RJD spokesperson Manoj Kumar Jha has been in Jharkhand for two days, voicing the party’s concerns. He hinted that the party would not accept just 3 or 4 seats, as this would undermine their strong position. He emphasized that the RJD has significant influence in 22 constituencies and is willing to negotiate for at least 12 seats.
If the RJD does not get 12 seats, they are prepared to contest 19-20 seats on their own, while supporting JMM-Congress candidates in the rest, to defeat the BJP.
Unhappy Meeting at the CM’s Residence According to Manoj Kumar Jha, the meeting held at the Chief Minister’s residence to discuss seat sharing was not productive. The RJD felt left out of the decisions made, and the number of seats they were offered was seen as unfair.
The RJD, despite facing hardships and even imprisonment, has remained strong in its opposition to the BJP, unlike some other parties that have faltered under pressure.
